History of Ghatail Cantonment English School

Ghatail Cantonment English School (Previous Name: Little Star English School) was initially established on 18 January 2000 at the Officers’ Quarter ‘’PANTHONIR’’ co-located with Children and Ladies Club. The present school infrastructure was developed in 2004 and the school was shifted to this present location on 28 February 2004. The then Chief Patron Major General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, psc (Now the Chief of Army Staff) was the master mind of this project. This school was functioning as “Little Star English School” in this present location till January 2013. Due to up gradation process, the name of the school was changed to Ghatail English School and it was proposed by the then Chief Patron (GOC and Area Commander Major General S M Safiuddin, ndc, psc).

Ghatail Cantonment English School is a unique institution at Shaheed Salahuddin Cantonment. Like other institutions of its kind in different cantonments, this school is imparting education to the children of both military and general mass of Ghatail area. From the inception this school was run by Station Headquarters Ghatail. Later the responsibility was given to Corps of Military Police Center & School (CMPC&S). After the unification of CMPC&S and Army School of Education and Administration (ASEA) in 2008, this school was run by Center and School of Military Police, Education and Administration (CSMEA). On separation of these two institutes on 25 September 2011, the functioning responsibility was given to ASEA by the Chief Patron and the then General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Area Commander Major General Mahabub Haider Khan, psc.

The school imparted education from Nursery to Std-VII up to 2007. The English version syllabus (National Curriculum) was introduced in the Cantonment Public School and College, Ghatail in 2008. Consequently Std-VI & VII were shifted there as per the decision of the authority. As per the National Primary School Policy, it was again decided in the Governing Body meeting-2012 to re-open Std-VI in 2013 academic year. It was also decided to re-open Std-VII and VIII in 2014 and 2015 gradually. Later in may 2015, Govt. approval was obtained to open class Std-VIII.

In June 2013 the Army authority decided to up-grade this school up to Std-XII and include it as a ‘Chain English Medium School’ with a capacity of 1000 students. The master plan of a new school building was approved by the Army authority and an Annual Development Project (ADP) was sanctioned to do the construction. The construction work started on 14 January 2016.

In 2016, class Std-IX started its journey which will gradually be upgraded upto XII class. By now, some progress has already been made with the concerned authority (Education Ministry and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka) for obtaining approval of opening class Std-IX and X.
